Job Description and Duties
This marketing specialist role offers the unique opportunity to serve as the lead marketer and outreach specialist for statewide invasive mussels and other aquatic invasives including emerging threats like golden mussels that jeopardize California’s water supply and natural ecosystems. The core mission of this work is to prevent the spread of invasive mussels, protect uninfested waters, and safeguard the state’s infrastructure and environment from costly, long-term impacts cause by aquatic invasive species.
The role will develop a comprehensive campaign roadmap; shape and strategic direction using scientific input; produce high-quality outreach and education materials; and lead statewide implementation and promotion of the campaign to the public.
The role will also develop and implement integrated marketing and public outreach campaigns that encourage awareness, behavior change, and compliance with aquatic invasive species prevention practices. It will produce American with Disabilities Act and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines-compliant digital content, creative development, manage contractor deliverables, and translate complex scientific and regulatory information into clear, compelling public messages.
Acting as a statewide marketing liaison, the role will coordinate messaging with CDFW divisions and numerous external partners to ensure consistent, science-based communication across channels. It will evaluate campaign performance using data and audience insights, refine strategies to strengthen engagement and behavior adoption, and deliver clear reporting that supports continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
