Preferred Education: 4 Year Degree Type: Full Time Level: Experienced Categories: Finance Internal Number: 2026-10-29 The Accountant/Senior Accountant is a key member of the District’s Finance Team and performs complex professional accounting and financial analysis duties in the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports for various District accounts and funds; coordinates and/or prepares assigned services and operations with those of other District divisions and outside agencies; assists in the development and installation of new accounting and cost systems; provides complex assistance to staff in areas of expertise; performs related duties as assigned. The Accountant/Senior Accountant is a non-exempt, General/Confidential level position. Placement level will be based on the selected candidates qualification and experience. The District is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and team-oriented accounting professional who demonstrates strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial reporting, budgeting, and account reconciliation, with the ability to utilize financial software applications and effectively manage multiple priorities. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff across departments. For consideration at the Senior Accountant level, candidates should demonstrate advanced technical expertise, experience performing complex governmental accounting and financial analysis, and the ability to exercise greater independent judgment, provide technical guidance, and support the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be positive, approachable, and of the utmost integrity, with a strong commitment to teamwork, professional growth, and exceptional service. Accountant Candidates must possess education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field and three (3) years of accounting experience in government accounting, preparing budgets and financial statements; and possess a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Sr. Accountant Candidates must possess education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience performing professional accounting duties related to general accounting, auditing, and/or financial management preferably in a public agency; and possess a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
